Alfaisal University Hosts Saudi Engineering Council Delegation for Guest Talk

The College of Engineering & Advanced Computing welcomed a delegation from the Saudi Council of Engineers to campus this month for a guest talk and open exchange with students and faculty on professional licensure, industry standards and the state of the engineering profession in the Kingdom.

The Saudi Council of Engineers is the national body responsible for regulating the engineering profession in Saudi Arabia, including the accreditation of engineering programs and the certification of practicing engineers. Its visit to Alfaisal brought senior representatives face to face with undergraduate engineering students at a point in the academic year when many are beginning to think seriously about licensure requirements, career pathways and the professional expectations that await them after graduation.

The session opened with an overview of the council's role in the Kingdom's engineering sector, before turning to a more practical discussion of what the transition from engineering student to certified professional actually involves — from documenting practical experience to meeting the requirements for professional accreditation in specific disciplines. Students were encouraged to ask questions directly, and the exchange ranged from technical accreditation criteria to broader conversations about how the engineering profession in Saudi Arabia is evolving alongside major national infrastructure and giga-project initiatives tied to Vision 2030.

For the College of Engineering & Advanced Computing, the visit fits into a broader effort to keep its curriculum, and its students, closely aligned with the standards and expectations of the profession they are entering. Faculty noted that direct contact with the body that will eventually certify many of these students as professional engineers gives the conversation a different weight than a standard classroom lecture, grounding coursework in the realities of practice.

The delegation also used the visit to hear directly from engineering faculty about how Alfaisal structures its accredited programs, and where opportunities might exist for closer collaboration between the university and the council going forward, including potential joint outreach to students earlier in their academic careers.

College leadership described the visit as part of an ongoing relationship with professional and regulatory bodies across the Kingdom's engineering sector, one it expects to continue building as its programs in engineering and advanced computing continue to grow.
