Annual Career Fair Connects Students with Leading Saudi Employers
Alfaisal University's campus filled with recruiters, résumés and first-round interviews this week as the Office of Alumni & Placement Relations hosted its annual career fair, bringing representatives from many of the Kingdom's leading employers face to face with students from all six colleges.
The career fair has grown into one of the most heavily attended events on the Alfaisal calendar, drawing organizations from across the private and public sectors — banking and finance, energy, healthcare, engineering and construction, technology, and government entities among them — many of whom return year after year specifically to recruit from Alfaisal's graduating classes. Booths lined the central concourse throughout the day, with recruiters fielding questions on everything from graduate training programs to internship pipelines.
For Alumni & Placement Relations, the event is the visible centerpiece of a placement effort that runs throughout the academic year, including résumé workshops, mock interviews and employer information sessions held in the months leading up to the fair. Students arriving on the day were encouraged to have already researched participating organizations and tailored their applications accordingly, and many did, arriving with portfolios and printed résumés in hand.
Because Alfaisal draws students across business, engineering, medicine, pharmacy, science and law, the fair is deliberately structured to serve a wide range of career paths in a single event, rather than concentrating on any one industry. Employers said the range of disciplines represented was itself part of the appeal, allowing them to meet candidates for multiple types of roles in a single visit to campus.
For graduating seniors in particular, the fair often marks the first formal step in a recruitment process that continues for weeks afterward, as promising conversations on the concourse turn into follow-up interviews and, for some, job offers before graduation. Alumni & Placement Relations said it works to keep in touch with participating employers throughout the year, not only at fair time, to keep the pipeline between Alfaisal graduates and Saudi employers active.
With this year's fair concluded, the office says planning is already underway for expanding next year's employer list further, building on relationships formed with participating organizations at this year's event.
