Alfaisal University Students Secure 2nd and 4th Place at KSU Medical Research Forum

A team of Alfaisal University medical students returned from the King Saud University Medical Research Forum with two podium finishes, placing 2nd and 4th among a competitive field of research projects drawn from medical schools across the Kingdom.

Hosted annually by the College of Medicine at King Saud University, the forum draws student researchers from Saudi medical schools to present original work across oral and poster presentation categories, spanning clinical case studies, epidemiological research and laboratory-based investigation. Judging panels made up of practicing physicians and academic researchers evaluate submissions on the rigor of their methodology, the clarity of their findings and their relevance to patient care in the Kingdom.

The Alfaisal delegation, drawn from students across different years of the medical program, spent months preparing their projects outside of regular coursework, often under the guidance of faculty supervisors who helped refine research questions and study design before submission deadlines. Their 2nd and 4th place finishes place Alfaisal among the strongest-performing delegations at this year's forum.

For the College of Medicine, results like these are treated as evidence of a broader point the college has made in recent years: that undergraduate medical students, given early exposure to research methodology and supportive mentorship, are capable of producing work that holds its own alongside graduate-level investigation. Alfaisal has steadily built research opportunities into its medical curriculum, encouraging students to pursue independent projects well before they reach their clinical years.

Beyond the individual recognition, faculty say forums like the one at King Saud University serve a second purpose: exposing Alfaisal students to peers from other Saudi medical schools, and to the kind of national research community they will work alongside for the rest of their careers. Several of this year's participating students said they left the forum with new collaborators and ideas for follow-up projects.

The College of Medicine says it will continue to support student participation in regional research forums going forward, viewing them as a natural extension of its emphasis on hands-on, mentored learning inside and outside the classroom.
